Law school really is dangerous

There's a coyote running loose around our school's parking lot AND the administration said they can't do anything about it until he/she attempts to attack someone. Hmmm....

So when the coyote does attack someone, I believe the person injured could sue the school for negligence... and win.

As if I needed another reason to dread coming to school! I love it really, it's just a lot of work around this time of year.

(In all fairness to the coyote, our school is backed up along woods which are likely to be his home so I'm sure he's irritated his house was destroyed)

I better get used to these...

A man and his fiancee are killed in a car crash two days before they’re scheduled to be married. 

They end up together in front of St. Peter and say, “St. Peter, we were about to get married. Can we still get married in heaven?” St. Peter replies, “Hmm, good question, let me check,” and walks away. 

The couple figures he’ll be back shortly, but it’s been a half hour and he’s still not back. Six hours, still not back. The next day, still not back. A week later, still not back.

 Four months later, St. Peter finally comes back and says, “Yes, you can get married in heaven.” The couple is happy, but then they ask, “St. Peter, that’s great, but what if it doesn’t work out? Can we get divorced in heaven?” 

St. Peter just looks at them for a second and explodes. “GIVE ME A BREAK! It took me FOUR MONTHS to find a priest, and now you want me to find a LAWYER?

I guess, by career choice, I'm destined to go straight to Hell. Maybe I'll join the Southern Baptist and try to be "saved" before it's too late. But then I'll have to tell them I'm in law school which might blow my chances.....I could just lie :)

Professor: Why do you think the court would make such a repugnant decision?

Student: Well, concerning public policy it's a slippery slope.

Professor (Interrupting student): What, are you a ski buff?

Basically it is all professor's duty to make every student feel like an idiot as many times as they can.

Eye Candy

Just to clarify I love Austin dearly and am even more in love with him after weekends like last.

 Weekends when he....

• Sneaks into my room and gets Clover to take her outside so I can continue to sleep without her licking me to take her outside 
  
• Rubs my neck after long days staring down at my computer
• Does load after load of my laundry because somehow laundry escapes my mind when I'm thinking of torts and hundreds of pages of reading a day
• Scrubs the bathroom so I can take my nightly baths in a clean bathtub 
• Has dinner (always healthy) ready when I get home and even cooks for my study groups

I also love his tolerance of my Mexican food addiction and my quest to see every national forest near Charlotte.

Oh and he'd hate if I told everybody this... but I love that he goe

s to chick flicks with me for date night, without complaining, and even says afterwards what a great movie it was and how much he loves movies that make him feel good afterwards.

I also love that he lets me watch clips of 17 Again over and over to take a look at this fine man, Zac Efron. In fact he's so perfect I have a friend that is convinced Disney genetically created his perfection to make money. I think that's a good theory, totally plausible.  

So there he is for your enjoyment ....and of course mine when I'm suffering during contracts and need some eye candy to distract from the complications of contracts and offers. Ugh. 

The little one...

This little girl is going into surgery tomorrow and I'm pathetically worried about it. I'm worried that she's going to be in pain and think that Austin and I hurt her in some way. I'm worried that she's going to be traumatized and never be herself again. I'm worried that her puppy days and sweet nature will be taken away. I wish there was someway I could tell her it's for her own good and she'll get better. I think I finally understand the heartache of parenting.

Wish us for the best. I'm sure she'll be looking like this the next few days.  Austin and I have bought her plenty of treats, including frozen ones that she loves and rest assure she'll be cuddled and spoiled every moment of recovery.  

Charlotte, NC....home?

Here I am living in Charlotte and loving it. I never imagined living on the East, or in the South and now I'm somewhere between. So far, I've enjoyed every bit of it. All of the "sirs" and "mams" and even "y'all" is taking some adjustment but make me smile everytime I hear them.

The people here are lovely. I'm considered honey or sweetie to nearly everyone I come in contact with. Oh and get this, people actually let you over in the lanes! haha It's a weird concept that people are actually friendly and happy here.

The trees are marvelous. Every street is lined with towering trees of every kind. There's forests on every side of the street with all types of trees. You'll see a magnolia tree right next to a pine tree next to an oak tree all growing together (it seems) Oh and they're green in the middle of summer! Amazing... I'm REALLY excited for the leaves to change. Fall is one of my favorite times of year and it's quickly approaching.

There's lakes everywhere too. A mile from my apartment there is a historic site, a plantation, nested near a lake. The plantation is now a park where they have a equestrian center, canoeing, hiking, mountain biking and a raptor center. The trails have 4 different types and one of them is wetlands! I'm ridiculously excited about that and can't wait to go there. From the pictures, the wetlands at the park look like the water area on The Notebook. I'll let you know how they really look.

I'm going to check out the plantation soon. This weekend they're doing a Revolutionary War enactment and I'm going there because I can't help but think it's like the one in Sweet Home Alabama. Plus, I'm in the South and have to take advantage of the culture and history here. The patriotism is rich in these lands of the country. Oh and college football is huge. I learned that quick, along with Nascar. 

Other cool things: South Carolina is twenty minutes away, the water tastes good, expenses are reasonable, I love my apartment and I'm getting closer to finding a ward I love. 

They also have Spiedies here (a upstate NY tradition of a yummy marinade my dad has  adopted into our family) I was so excited at lunch when I saw them on the menu and ordered them in a light wrap with tomatoes and lettuce with fresh fruit. Exactly what I needed after 4 classes and to remind me of home. I called my dad to share my enthusiasm...it was that big of a deal to me. (Law school seems to make anything else but reading cool. Seriously) 

Before I forget, I just learned there's a national water center here with the world's largest rotating river made for river rafting only 20 mins away! They also have rock climbing, two zip lines, canoeing, kayaking, hiking and mountain biking. Can you believe that?! All in one place! I can't wait to take the little boys there. They'll love it and I'll love being with them here in my new, temporary home.

Lastly, the beach is 2 1/2 hours and the mountains are 1 1/2. I hate to say this to you So Cal people but I hear the NC beaches are the most magnificent beaches in the world. (I'll let you know). The mountains, I hate to say this too, are unbelievable

I'm loving the opportunity of living here and learning what areas of the country I love and the reasons they captivate me. I'm not gonna say I'm sold on this place yet, but that's what I'll be deciding while I'm exploring Charlotte and myself.
